Ever wonder where exactly babies come from? Why this guy delivers them to your door of course! These are porcelain “Kinderbringen”, rare male fertility figures given to newlyweds in the hopes they would have many children. These jovial jokesters were made in mid nineteenth century Germany.

I don’t know German porcelains well enough yet to speculate as to which factories might have produced them. There are probably a few different makers represented here. These were collected one at time from different sources. Only one has any markings at all. The black enamel numbers shown.

All have been press moulded, ranging from simple two piece moulds to more complex assemblages of individually moulded parts.

From 8.7 cm to 13.5 cm in height.
