I believe this trio of erotic beauties was made by one or more Russian Private Factory in the mid nineteenth century. Like “Woman Lacing Boots” posted a couple weeks ago, these factories would have been in the Gzhel region where it was a normal part of business to make copies of Gardner and Popov figures.
There are obvious similarities of form and style to erotic figures made by the Gardner Factory. The “Woman Adjusting Corset” attributed to Gardner that was posted last year for one. Some of the examples recorded in Russian books are larger but otherwise of comparable form.
The quality of each of these figures is very good. Not quite that of Gardner though. These are copies made after Gardner models.
These women were well put together. The joins of the separately moulded parts were properly ‘repaired’ in the leather hard stage with minor issues only. The women’s forms are well proportioned as well as anatomically correct.
The youthful curiosity of young boys was answered just a little bit after their hands snuck these from their cabinets. That I am sure of. The attributions should be seen as speculation. Further research is needed.
