The figure I have been working on in the tree is one possibility. In my mind I am starting to see something more dynamic. Will take this figure out and clean it up but not make any final decisions until I have explored other options.

When it came time to modify the heads this week, it made more sense to build wax over the originals. Furry men ought to have more facial hair and longer hair in general than the action figure types. One of these heads will end up being covered by a fursuit but for now each is an opportunity to explore. Ongoing for now.

My tight work space has led me to rethink the remaining bases. If every one were as elaborate as the tree, I would have nowhere left to make the ceramic part of the project.

I have modelled the basic form for a rectangular base to accommodate a bench and another square like the tree. The models have been designed to do double duty by being reversible right to left to save on the number of moulds needed. The idea for the garniture bases is that they form a path around a tree.

Each base will be made distinct by an arrangement of separately made and attached elements. When I made the life sized cats last year, I attached slip cast bodies to press moulded bases. This let me build support into the bases where it was needed. That is what will be done here, with the exception of the tree which will be all slip cast.

In the next week, I see myself working on the benches and other elements. Thinking it’s time for a research trip to Assiniboine Park with a camera and tape measure. Will try to get the benches in the same 1/6 scale as the action figures. Scouting for some other elements I might want to use.
