When I tried to seriously pose one of the action figures to see what I needed to build, I quickly realized the backs of my benches were too high. No seated furry could have their arm on top of the bench back at that heigh. I removed 1.5 cm from the middle of the back support, tacking the pieces back together with wire. A new waste mould was made with corrections made in the mould to the profile. Cast five copies in plaster to make two new benches and have one left to modify the waste mould into a slip casting mould. The first of the final moulds.
Warmer weather this past week took the strain off the heating system in the studio and caused some of the branches on my trees to fall off before I had finished dealing with them. Seeing them unattached made me think how they are just smaller scale trees themselves. Had the idea that there should be three scales of tree forms to make the completed tree. It is not important right now that they be fitted precisely in place on the first stage of the tree. They can be cut and fitted as required just like a spout might be cut and fitted to the body of a teapot. Much simpler than where I was going and will allow variation between different numbers in the edition.
I have grown used to having a giant freezer right outside the door. Unseasonably warm weather is pushing me to get some of the moulds done now before the wax starts shifting. Worried if I wait too long, the smaller branches and bench planks will start to warp and sag. Getting some of those moulds done now makes sense.
The two ends of the garniture are not having furries. Considering a signpost for one and a detail in the glazing on the other that will give them further interest.
Some weeks just don’t turn out to be as productive as one might. I fought off the flu myself and then ended the week with one of my beloved kitties needing sudden surgery. More stress and less time to work than I would have wanted. That’s how it goes. My little dear has come through her surgery fine today. Will have to see where next week takes me.
