Two stand alone pieces from the garniture, a bench and a tree, and a pair of the wall mounted cat heads are the best I can hope to have fired by the end of this month. The bench with two figures will have to wait for the September show at The Edge. I am pushing the wax and mould deadline as it is just to get the bear completed.
The dehumidifier has been pulling about ten litres of water a day from the work space. In a moment of inspiration, I started using the recycled water to make this week’s moulds. Seemed a beautiful thing to take the water that evaporates from the drying moulds to make the new ones. Usually I just pour it on the garden. The big moulds are finally feeling dry.
Didn’t get a chance to get back to casting or pressing this past week. The cat and bear furry moulds were my priority. I made around a dozen two to five piece moulds to this end. I need about one more day to finish the bear. Then on to clay in a big way.
I probably won’t get back to the two dog furries until August though there may be windows of opportunity before then.
Once the parts for the four new pieces are assembled and drying, I will start pulling the glazes together. Time to go through past tests and compose the palette I want to work with in this series. Then glaze mixing, planning of what goes where and any further testing if needed. Every day will count between now and the end of the month.
