It took two days instead of one to finish the bear.
Six months of model and mould making left plaster and wax bits everywhere. Not the conditions you want to get your porcelain out in. Two days of cleaning and organizing.
Then two days of slip casting. Counted forty four slip casting moulds for the project so far (plus three press moulds). Took more than one try to get a good cast from some of them. At least one from each mould has now been made. All the parts are being kept damp, waiting to be put together.
Instead of sorting through images into the evening as I usually do on Mondays, I am choosing to get the three base moulds pressed. So rather than all the usual process shots, I am showing the collection of parts generated at the end of today.
Pressing the bases allows me to build supports where I need them. I started doing this last year with the life sized cats. On the underside, the garniture pieces will look similar to some eighteenth century figures with built in supports walls.
The pieces will be assembled in the next few days. Planning to make two copies of each piece so more slip casting etc once the first round has been put together, time pending of course should things take longer than I imagine. Finishing one of each by the end of this month is my priority.
