I have been experimenting with different combinations of colours under the Black Hole glaze.
There are three coats of glaze brushed on in total as always. I have been layering different colours of glaze on top of each other for the first two coats with this round of vases and plant pots.
I wanted to see if the order of application would make a difference in the fired result. As you can see from the images, it does.
Each pair of cylinders shown here has the same two colours underneath in reverse order. There are four sets of colours making for eight different ‘looks’. The base glaze with Neodymium Oxide is paired with the base glaze containing purple stain. That gives the blue-violet colours. Erbium pink is paired with red stain. Cobalt-free black is paired with Vanadium yellow stain. Praseodymium oxide is paired with Green (yellow plus blue) stain.
The results are very promising. I think I’ve found that tree glaze I was looking for.
The final load of glaze fired work is coming out of the kiln this afternoon.
After everything has been cleaned up, photographed and delivered where it needs to go, I will return to mould making. Hopefully in the next few days I can get started on the moulds for the modular forms.
