The dehumidifier stopped working weeks ago. It started blowing the circuit breaker every time I used it. Drying is a slow process without it.

I had forgotten how well vitrified porcelain cookies work when you need to level an edge. The canvas imprint left behind from using the slab roller is the perfect abrasive with a little water on top.

A few forms came out of the bisque with a slight wobble to the foot. Fired cookies work on bisque too.

I fired a couple of mini bisques in the test kiln while I waited for the larger forms to dry. That let me get started on glaze tests.

I have planned out four sets of six tests to start with. Three sets of tests are designed to show the differences ordering makes in the layering of glaze colours. Each set will have the six possible combinations of the three glazes that make it up. One set of tests is to see how lighter colours look on top of black. There are six different two layer combinations over a base coat of black glaze.

I seriously over fired the first set of six tests. It was late in the day and my tired old body couldn’t get down low enough to read the cones. I let it fire off using the pyrometer when I should not have. The results were still intriguing. Just blistered and pitted. Where I was expecting cheery and light, I got hellfire and brimstone (good glaze names). Maybe that’s a sign of the times.

I want to see the fired results before considering adding underglazes to the mix. Trying it now would add one too many variables.
