While it has been a few days since the kiln was unloaded, I still feel a sense of awe when I look at the fired test results. Each of the six combinations making up the red, green and blue sets, as well as the seven paired combinations over black, is unique. So many possibilities to work with. So many more hinted at.

The images of individual tests are numbered 1 to 25, which you will see if you open the slider. This corresponds to my notes listing first, second and third coat of glaze making up the finish. Any of these finishes can be duplicated given the same firing conditions.

While it is hard to pick a favourite, 25 is pretty special. That combination was not on my list. I got mixed up and put orange over black where I shouldn’t have. Rather than wipe it off, I decided to go with the unlikely choice of deep green on top. Calling it “Dragon Skin”.

In addition to glazing, I slip cast a few rounds of the small open forms this past week. Fills the need for a sustainable supply of test forms.

More glazing and firing this week. Selected tests will be scaled up. Singles, pairs or trios of the larger open forms. Excited to see where things go from here. Cheers to new discoveries!
