When I was making mugs with trimmed feet a few weeks back, I began to imagine leaving the bottoms alone. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea. These tumblers are about putting that idea into practice. The plaster bats I throw on make the it possible because the work releases itself when it is ready. No cut off wire, no stress.
My ideal tumbler would not need any trimming. Once the bat was removed from the wheel, the only thing left would be to sign it. It would feel comfortable in the hand, inviting to drink out of and easy on the eyes. I am closer than when I started but not there yet. So you see me trimming in the sequence of images.
Same kind of forms only smaller this week. I want to find the least amount of porcelain I can centre and make cups that size. For reference, the tumblers this past week were about 250 grams each to start.
